Why Freezing the Fun, Crazy, real, and sometimes awkward moments with your Mom, Grandma, Aunt or Cousins Matter!
Every year, we celebrate the women in our lives that are responsible for bringing you into this world.
Nurturing, taking care of you, kissing your boo-boos when you were a kid when you injured yourself. Giving you fun snacks or planning a fun day just you and Mom! Making you dinner and teaching you life lessons.
Taking you places and introducing you to new experiences. Loving you and always having your back.
Moms
Everyone has a story.
Some of you have wonderful, fond, joyful, happy, frustrating ,crazy memories of life with your Mom. While some of you may not.
And if that is you, I am so sorry to hear that. I don’t want you to have bad memories from your childhood but, I realize that isn’t always the case.
Now, some of you may have Moms in your life that are not your biological Mom however, that person may be a Mom like figure in your life.
Like an Aunt, cousin or, maybe, even a friend or a role model. Moms can be in your everyday life, even if they’re no related to you. And that’s something special.
When I think about my mom I think about some things that she taught me ( like how to make chocolate chips cookies from scratch when I was 11 , teaching me how to read out loud by having me practice reading the newspaper to her while she cooked ).
I also think about her strength, her struggles as a single Mom ( my Mom and Dad separated when I was very young ) and how she loved me and raised me the best way she knew how too ( which wasn’t easy).
It wasn’t always sunshine and roses but, I still have some fun memories of her.
Like this photo of my Mom & I at my cousins Wedding Reception/Party in the summer of 1987.
It was a very HOT summer in Mpls. And this photo also makes me laugh because I remember my blue eyeshadow phase along with me white lace stockings, teased bangs and denim shirt.
What can I say, it was the 80’s.
This image of my Mom and I is a rare one because my Mom is actually smiling in this photo.
My Mom never smiled in photos so, not only is this rare because she was smiling, it also is a reminder of a happy time in our life and this photo freezes that moment.
I have great memories of my Grandmother as well.
She was strict but spoiled me anyway. This rare photo my Grandmother and I was taken on the day that I’d just come from Sherwood Camp. My Grandfather decided to take this photo.
I remember being hot and tired and in nooooo mood to take a photo but, when I look back, now, I’m glad I have this photo of us . Even if it is a little awkward!
I still cherish it!
Which brings me to why I say that freezing special moments in time matter. The silly, fun, even awkward moments are important to capture.
Why?
Because they show the real, raw moments in your life. Life is a world wind of craziness ups and downs. Good times, bad times, happy times, fun times, and busy times.
But one thing’s for sure, if you didn’t have photographs to show you different times in your life, your memories would just be words and much harder to remember and cherish.
You need those memories to look back on, reminding you that even though life can be unpredictable, crazy, and fun, sharing moments with your Mom ( biological or not ) is priceless!
That’s the awesome thing about photography and one of the many reasons why I love it so much. I love, love, love, helping you create stories and memories that will last a lifetime. Photos that you will see in your home displayed on your walls or on your desk at work.
So next time you’re out and about hanging out with your Mom, Grandma, Aunt or cousins. Think about freezing that moment in time. Think about capturing the real, natural, beautiful moments between you, your Mom, Grandma, Aunt or cousins.
Trust me, those moments matter, cherish them, record them so that you can keep those precious memories forever!
